IRIX Installation auf Indigo R3k

Hi,
ich habe eine Indigo R3000 und möchte gerne IRIX 5.3 installieren. Über ein normales, sprich schnelles, CDROM-Lw geht das nicht, bekomme immer Fehlermeldungen. Hat jemand eine Idee? Evtl. ein langsames CD-Lw? Oder remote-install?
Für Hilfe wäre ich wirklich dankbar, sonst steht das gute Stück einsam rum...

Schau mal, ob Du bei dem CD-ROM Laufwerk die verwendete Blockgrösse auf 512 bytes setzen kannst. Spätere SGIs machen das selbst via SCSI, für die älteren Modelle muss man das händisch per Jumper am Laufwerk machen, was aber nicht bei allen geht. Schnell darfs ruhig sein, hab auch schon alte Maschinen von 32x Laufwerken und dergleichen installiert.

vielen Dank. Blocksize 512 hab ich gesetzt und auch verschiedene CD-Lw ausprobiert. Bekomme imme rdieselbe Nachricht: unexpected blablabla...
Habe nun remote install versucht: auf ein Octane-Verzeichnis Irix 5.3 kopiert und laut Anweisung Server und Client vorbereitet. Indigo bootet auch, und ich komme bis zum Installations-Menü. Wenn ich dann sage : 1 from... bekomme ich die Meldung, dass die Netzverbindung zum Server (Octane) nicht vorhanden ist, obwohl ich kurz vorher davon noch gebootet hatte. Wenn ich dann in einer shell die Indigo anpinge, verliere ich alle Pakete! Wieso ist die Netzverbindung auf einmal weg?

Hi, Gerhard,

Du hattest recht: Ich habe noch ein letztes TEAC Laufwerk ausprobiert, anders gejumpert - und plötzlich ging es. Nachdem die Installation über remote auch nicht klappen wollte.

hi all
i don"t speak or understand deutch very well (not at all in facts)
but i have trouble to for installing irix 5.3 on an indigo R3k entry

i use original SGI CD of 5.3, in perfect shape with Toshiba 3401B CDrom drive, it's my crimson's CD drive
i do the following procedure:

- go to the prom menu....select 2 to install, when i press Enter the CD drive works, and after 3 sec, i have a beep and the indigo go bqck the prom main menu.....
- i go to the prom monitor, i type:
boot -f dksc(0,6,8)sashIP12, i obtaint a message like:
142245+122512+56562: exception 08x0124513154, and go back the main menu too

i do a dump onto my octane2, i setup a bootp server, i typeine the indigo's prom monitor
boot -f bootp()192.168.0.10:/gig/irix/stand/sash.IP12, and it do the same as with the CDdrive..... weird ??
any idea ?

sorry for the english.... but i do not learn deutch at school....to lazy :D

Hi,
I had the same problem with the Toshiba CD-drive. It doesn´t work, because I couldn´t set the blocksize to 512. So I changed to Teac 532S CD-drive and set it to blocksize 512. And now it works.
